The Cheese Collection

Verner Panton is one of the most influential furniture and interior designers of the 20th century. The Cheese collection, created between 1969 and 1970, features round tables that accommodate wedge-shaped chairs fitting the table like a glove. These chairs are crafted as hollow sections, and the tabletop is adorned with a geometric pattern in vibrant shades of red and orange.

Inheriting Verner Panton's Visual Design Principles

Throughout the whole project, I wanted to make sure that the visual principles of Verner Panton's designs were respected — Expressive, yet minimal. Thus simple repetitions were used to introduce the chairs. Symmetry is also a recurring visual trait I wanted to implement as a common thread throughout the entire narrative.

Recreating the Missing Pieces

Having only a couple of references for the Cheese collection was challenging but fun. This gave me opportunities to fill up the missing pieces with scenes that will enhance the original photograph. The results were fulfilling. The first image is the original photograph that was found in the Verner Panton archive. The version I created is the short video accompanying the image.
