Wybrand Hendriks was a Dutch painter, primarily known for his portraits, and the concierge of the Teylers Museum. His work often features portraits that exhibits a sense of realism and attention to detail. For the launch of an exhibition at Teyler's Museum featuring some of his iconic work, I created assets that brought to life 3 of Wybrand Hendriks' renown paintings.

Life Imitating Art

Teyler's Museum shortlisted the three paintings above to be brought to life. I wanted to make sure that the paintings were animated in a manner that respected Wybrand Hendrik's style and intention. To do so, I used real life references and employed 3D, illustration techniques to help bring this to life.

Learnings

Limitations on time and budget meant that it is important to work with utmost efficiency. I have employed the Generative Fill tool in Photoshop to fill up some gaps in the background, the sky, for instance. This allowed me to channel my focus on refining more important aspects of the output, such as having a closer representation of Wybrand Hendrik's and his cat's expressions, and animate more elements in the Grote Markt painting.
